If all of your journals are in the biomedical subject area, you can use the National Library of Medicine catalog to search for journal abbreviations. You will get more focused results if you put the full journal title in quotation marks:

"american journal of public health"

results # 3 is to the journal record and states:

NLM Title Abbreviation:Am J Public Health
